About the Farm
Serene Fox Farm is located in Sunflower County Mississippi in the northwestern part of the state, about
7.1 miles (as the crow flies, henceforth referred to as ATCF) NNE of Shaw, Mississippi, 9.1 miles SSE of Cleveland, 7.7 miles WSW of Doddsville, 12.0 miles N of Indianola.
Working on the Farm
To our neighbors we are a curiosity in some respects. I have been asked a number of times, why I moved to the Delta. The short answer is that it felt like home, but of course, there was much more involved. Serene Fox Farm is by definition a small-to-midsize farm. While neighbors farm thousands of acres of rich alluvial soil, our efforts are confined to less than 200 acres.
The Mississippi Delta
The Delta is a special place for a variety of reasons. For many, it is regarded with something less than unbridled enthusiasm, but if one looks more carefully, there is plenty to see here and much of it is quite beautiful. The Delta is a fascinating place to see history before your very eyes. Sometimes history is not so pretty, but in order to appreciate any area, one must consider its history and its geography, as well as its culture, politics, and economics.
Area Attractions
When one mentions the Mississippi Delta to most outside the state, they associate it will all the negative social, political, and cultural issues that have confronted the state for most of its history. Agriculture is the economic engine of the state and nowhere is the more evident than in the Delta. For decades, the principal crop was cotton and cotton is not an easy plant to grown, but the return on investment can be greater than almost any other crop.
